Long meeeting with a former government minister over lunch.
Most interesting. He filled me in regarding some of the developments in the country
since the coup. A man full of insights and experience. And very wordly and
cosmopolitan too. Above all he has quite a balanced view and does not just
condemn and criticize but see both the positive and less positive developments and how the outside world is viewing political progress (or lack thereof) here. Most interesting meeting.
Evening meal with the two pleasant guys who run the German SE
Asia Center at Thammasat University (where I'll be giving a talk tomorrow) in a
very good Thai restaurant. The loud band playing in the background was a bit annoying at first
but somehow, after a little while, it seemed to fade away largely and a good conversation was quite possible.
