Dear Friends,
Thanks a lot for coming to Steve Rabe's talk on Latin America and the U.S. in such good numbers. We very much appreciate your support.
Here is the next exciting event - exceptionally a Documentary Movie and a very good one:
"Argentina's Dirty War and the U.S. (1976-83): Finding the Missing Grandchildren"
This Monday coming, February 2, 6.00pm - Mandela auditorium, General Education building -- ALL WELCOME -- also see the flyer below
(free parking after 5.00pm in the garage beneath the building)
The 45-minute movie will be introduced by the producer Prof Charlie Tuggle (UNC-CH) and the event will be chaired by Prof. Klaus Larres
After the movie Prof. Hodding Carter will comment. Hodding Carter was Assistant Secretary of State and spokesperson for the State Department during the Jimmy Carter administration.
Hodding's wife Patricia "Patt" Derian was Assistant Secretary of State for Human Rights during the Carter era. In this position she helped to save thousands of lives by calling global attention to the daily torture, kidnappings and murders than occurred while the military junta was in power in Argentina (1976-83). Mrs Derian will not be present.
I would like to thank the UNC Institute for the Study of the Americas (IAS) for its support.
